Looking for a compassionate Clinical Psychologist?
I'm Tamara and I provide psychological therapy to adolescents and adults in the Cairns area.
About me
Hi, my name is Tamara! I am a clinical psychologist, who works from a person-centred and relational approach grounded in evidence-based interventions. I am excited about change and growth by working with adolescents and adults to create insight, to change thinking patterns and to build healthy habits. It takes intentional and deliberate practices to create a healthy mind and good mental health.
You can expect warmth and compassion from me, as well as curiosity, humour and a non-judgmental approach.
My background is a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at James Cook University in Cairns and a Master of Psychology (Clinical) at James Cook University in Townsville. I began working with children and adolescents at the Child & Youth Mental Health Service in Moranbah, and then, continued to work with young people at headspace Cairns. I began working at Dr Ina Flockhart & Associates in 2019 and have worked with adolescents and adults for over 5 years. Now in my own private practice, TK Psychology, I am passionate about delivering a compassionate approach to improving mental health. I engage in continuous professional development and supervision to increase my clinical knowledge and skills. I hold registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA Registration Number PSY0001963160) and I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Frequently Asked Questions
This will depend on your individual circumstances. Counselling will be most effective if it is regular and consistent when you first begin the process. Typically, sessions occur weekly or fortnightly. We can decide together what will work best for you.
Each standard psychology session is 50 minutes (with 10 minutes reserved for writing a clinical note).
In the first appointment, we will talk in a safe and confidential space about what motivated you to see a clinical psychologist. I aim to understand your mental health concerns and life circumstances as well as past experiences that may be impacting your mental health now. We explore goals that you may have for therapy and we briefly discuss a suitable therapeutic approach. The initial session is your opportunity to decide whether I will be a good fit for you, and I welcome your feedback.
Yes, I provide telehealth counselling if you are unable to attend appointments in-person. Please contact me to discuss this.
The practice is based in 16/12 Lake Street in Cairns, upstairs in the Conservatory Building.
You are welcome to bring a referral with you to your initial appointment. You can also ask your GP or medical specialist to fax it to 07 2145 8723.
